NEW PETRA LEAVING THE SHIP LIFT AT STREPY-THIEU, BE.
This picture was taken in March 2004, during our shakedown cruise, by Liz who jumped ashore as we left the bac to get a picture of NP underway.
The ship lift replaces 4 Victorian lifts limited to 38m barges and we had just descended 75m. There is a very good visitor centre and a viewing gallery.
Between Strepy & Brussels is the inclined plane at Ronquieres, where ships use wheeled bacs as a lift. There is an excellent visitor centre, in English, with a history of barges in Belgium
